2024 Planning Committee

Are you interested in serving on the 2024 Hoovers Hometown Days Planning Committee? Read through the information below to learn more!

MISSION

An annual festival for residents and visitors that combines a variety of activities recognizing the unique
heritage of West Branch, Iowa, hometown of Herbert Hoover, while supporting and celebrating our thriving small-town community.

VISION

Hoover’s Hometown Days aims to be a financially sustainable destination event that gives attendees an
experience that integrates recreation, education, heritage, and community. The celebration will foster
collaboration, volunteerism, and support local organizations while inspiring hometown pride.

Background

Over the past several years, it has become apparent that the coordination of Hoover’s Hometown Days makes sense with a local non-profit organization and that it should become resident-driven rather than being included in the City’s complex operational budget. Dedicated to seeing HHTD succeed, the City has committed seed money for the new committee and will assist in the transition through the training of new officers.

Main Street West Branch has agreed to house the HHTD Committee with their Executive Director serving
as an advisor to this new resident-driven structure.

The festival has great partnerships like the Fire Station, National Park Services, Lions Club, Boosters, PTO, Whitney’s Wings, Hoover Presidential Foundation, and more who coordinate events and activities during the festival! The committee is charged with connecting all these groups, marketing the festival, coordinating children’s activities like the inflatables, entertainment such as street vendors and bands, and overall festival logistics.

Committee Meetings

Committee meetings are held on weeknights at the Rummells Center. Meetings are monthly
September-January and bi-weekly February-August. A meeting time will be established by Mid-August by
the newly selected Directors. We will aim for 60-minute meetings but please know meetings could last
up to 90-minutes depending on the time of year.

Committee Expectations
● Available HHTD Weekends – First weekend in August every year
● Attend HHTD Committee meetings.
● Maintain communication with the committee and other stakeholders

requests.
