Chautauqua Tent… Returning this year!

It is noble to teach oneself; it is nobler to teach others – and less trouble. –Mark Twain

The National Park Service and Hoover Presidential Foundation are bringing back the popular Chautauqua Tent for 2018!  Located across from the Birthplace Cottage, the tent features educational programming for all ages.

Abraham Lincoln

We’re happy to welcome back Michael Krebs as Abraham Lincoln!  Michael has played Lincoln in a variety of capacities, for educational programs and even appearing in videos.  Check out more photos and videos at the With Lincoln website or Facebook!  Abraham Lincoln will be presenting at 11:30 on Saturday.

Mark Twain

This year’s Chautauqua Tent will also feature Mark Twain, presented by Warren Brown.  Warren Brown does a variety of Mark Twain programs for all ages.  Check out more of what he has to offer at his website or Facebook.  Mark Twain will be at the tent at 1:30 on Saturday!

Smith Studio Jazz with Suzanne Smith

In the spirit of the Chautauqua movement, there will also be a music program at our tent this year!  Smith Studio Jazz started in 2009 when two musicians started meeting with Suzanne Smith to work on jazz improvisation.  More friends joined and the band grew, and now they perform real music with a full lineup of experienced musicians!  Check them out on Facebook here and during HHTD on Saturday afternoon at 3:00.

Some Music for Everyone

If jazz isn’t your thing, check out some of these other musical acts that will be performing at Hoover’s Hometown Days in 2017!

The Thunder Pigs (pictured)

The Thunder Pigs are a local band of high school students who cover classic rock songs. The core group consists of Ben Colbert on lead guitar, Atlas Kolpin on bass guitar, and Max Salemink on drums. The Thunder Pigs expect plenty of guest appearances from vocalists and other musicians, so it should be a fun time!

Sid V & the Human Resources

HHTD once again welcomes Sid V & the Human Resources.  They’re an energetic cover band featuring a wide variety of hits, mostly from the 50s through the 80s.  Hear oldies, classic rock, blues, big band swing, and even some country, folk, and polka styles!  Their experienced vocalists can bring you the sounds of Elvis and Mick Jagger, and together with the rest of the band they perform songs from Little Richard and Chuck Berry to The Beatles and Zeppelin to Eric Clapton and much, much more.

FunkDaddies

FunkDaddies perform horn-driven soul, R&B, and dance music with their own original style. Featuring the talented vocals of Alicia Strong (the “Lady of Soul”), FunkDaddies are inspired by Earth, Wind & Fire, Tower of Power, and the classic hits of Motown.  You’ll recognize music from KC & the Sunshine Band, The Commodores, Stevie Wonder, and even some Bruno Mars!

Brass Transit Authority

If you’re in the mood for some horn-driven classic rock, stop by to see Brass Transit Authority!  They have a full lineup of talented musicians bringing you many hits from Chicago and Blood Sweat & Tears, and they can also throw in some Van Morrison, Huey Lewis, or Blues Brothers.
